The main aim of this study was to explore quality assurance as utilised in the Foundation Phase in the Limpopo Province. The concept of quality assurance refers to a programme for the systematic monitoring and evaluation of the various aspects of a project, service, or facility to ensure that standards of quality are being met. This study is based on the constructivist, naturalistic or interpretative paradigm. According to the constructivist paradigm, reality is subjective and multiple. The study is based on exploratory research design, which is aimed at identifying the reasons for the challenges experienced and the possible solutions for the implementation of quality assurance. This study is also based on a mixed method research approach which consists of both qualitative and quantitative approaches. This study is guided by the Total Quality Management Theoretical Framework developed by William Edwards Deming.
